Indeed, the owners of land two blocks away are under no legal constraints and could just let the debate continue around them without reacting to it. The linkages that are being made are about 9/11 and also assumed ties with Hamas. At least I saw a video where one woman with a sign indicating that the planners of the Mosque have "ties to Hamas". This film appeared on Glenn Greenwald's Salon page. No one clarified or disputed her information.

What would a Jewish organization with plans to build on land they owned in NY do if there happened to be controversy? What about a Catholic or Buddhist group? Not that there should be a comparison, just that it is interesting to consider that as we watch the painful "debate" and the way the media has sucked in some Muslim leaders.

Furthermore, their decisions would seem to have a lot more to do with the media misrepresentations and exaggerations than the exact nature of any complaints. Major networks describing events as "protests" about the Mosque planned for ground zero, yet there seem to have been groups on both the "pro" and "con" side of this out there with signs. The Murdock/Koch media.
